The clip in my post about when cyber sex goes wrong reminded me of a programme I watched by Dear Deidre about sex in the Naughties a few weeks ago on channel 4. (currently available as a download on 4onDemand)
Apparently there has been a 25% rise in infidelity in the last decade in the UK, and part of the fault of this has been put down to the internet. There is no doubt that the internet has made certain things more readily available, from locating a solid gold dildo for that special someone for Christmas or fresh porn at your fingertips, and if you know where to look for it sex is certainly is just as easy to come by. Anyway one of the main points this programme raises is about cyber sex and in particular cyber cheating.
But does this really count as cheating? Usually I have quite definite opinions when it comes to sex but I’m not really sure about this at all. It really is a grey area. For a start it is over the web and not face to face. Personally I feel that this is less intimate than a lap dance and more removed from reality. Although the fact remains that it is still going outside of the relationship for sexual kicks.
Some people think that kissing someone else is cheating and others wouldn’t even raise an eyebrow.
I have never completely understood the appeal of cyber sex with a stranger. So I guess that this is something very personaI. I only enjoy it with someone I plan to have sex with for real. It just adds to the anticipation. So for me cyber sex would always be cheating because it is always just the beginning of things to come but that may not be true if some one was cyber cheating on me – I’m not sure that I’d care.
